Privacy Policy

Prefill is built to keep your data on your own device. There are no accounts, no analytics, and nothing about you is sold or shared. This page explains exactly what the extension stores and which optional features send data anywhere.

What Prefill stores (locally)

Everything below is saved with the browser's chrome.storage.local API on your computer. It is not transmitted to us or anyone else:

• Your profile: name, contact details, your street address, city and state, work history, education, skills, and the equal-opportunity/demographic answers you choose to enter.
• Learned answers: screener answers you type on forms, so Prefill can offer them next time. Identity numbers are never saved, whatever the field is called: an answer that looks like a Social Security number, a payment card, a bank routing number or an IBAN is refused on sight, and so is anything in a password, card or sign-in field.
• Application tracker: companies, roles and stages you add, together with the web address of the job posting and the date you applied, so Prefill can warn you before you apply to the same role twice.
• Settings and usage counters: e.g. a per-day count of fields filled, used only to draw the progress rings in the popup.
• Your résumé file: if you upload one, a copy is kept locally so you can re-download it. It is not uploaded to any server by Prefill.

You can export or delete this data at any time from the extension, and uninstalling Prefill removes it.

Filling forms

When you click Autofill (or use the keyboard shortcut), Prefill reads the form fields on the page you are viewing and fills them from your local profile. It runs on the current page only when you ask it to. Prefill never submits an application for you. You always review and submit yourself.

Optional Premium AI features

Prefill's free résumé parsing and question matching run entirely on your device. Three optional features, available only with a Prefill Premium license you enter yourself, send data off your device, and only at the moment you use them:

• AI résumé parsing: the text of the résumé you upload is sent, to extract structured fields.
• Drafted answers: the screener question you ask for help with, plus a summary of your profile (name, current title and employer, city and state, years of experience, education level, work history, skills, and up to twenty of your saved answers), so the draft is grounded in your own background.
• Job-fit scoring: the text of the job posting on the page you are viewing, plus a short summary of your profile (title, years of experience, roles and skills, with no name or contact details).

In each case the data goes to Prefill's Premium processing endpoint, a small server we run on Cloudflare Workers, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the result to your device. Prefill does not store any of it on a server. Those two companies are the only third parties that ever receive this data, and each processes it under its own terms: see Anthropic's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. Neither is given your identity, and neither is permitted to use your text to train a model or to build a profile of you.

Protected-class answers are never sent, even with Premium on. Saved answers about race or ethnicity, gender, disability, veteran or military status, pregnancy, marital status, religion, citizenship or immigration status, age or date of birth are filtered out of everything above and stay on your device.

These features are off by default. With no Premium license entered, Prefill sends none of your data anywhere: no profile, no answers, no résumé, nothing about the pages you visit. There is exactly one request it can make before you hold a license, and only if you start a Premium purchase yourself: after you click a checkout button it asks our own server whether your license has been created yet, sending a random one-time reference number and nothing else. It stops as soon as the license arrives, or after fifteen minutes.

Permissions, and why

• storage: save your profile and settings locally.
• activeTab + scripting: read and fill the form on the page you're on, when you trigger a fill.
• Site access: Prefill's form-reading code loads on the pages you visit, so it can tell you when there is something on the page it is able to fill. That reading happens entirely on your device (nothing about the pages you visit is transmitted or recorded) and it fills only when you ask it to.
• Optional access to all sites, requested only if you turn on "Auto-update open tabs," so a fill isn't missed after the extension updates. You can decline or revoke it.

Limited use of your data

Prefill's use of the information it handles, including any information received from Google APIs, adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell your data or transfer it to anyone; we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to assess creditworthiness or for lending. It is used only to produce the result you asked for.

Payments, and the one record we do keep

If you subscribe to Prefill Premium, payment is handled by Stripe. Prefill never sees or stores your card details. Stripe processes payments under its own privacy terms.

To know that your license is valid, we keep one small record on our own server for each subscription: your license key, your Stripe subscription ID, the email address you gave at checkout, and the dates it starts and renews. That is the entire record. It is not linked to your profile, your answers, your résumé or anything you fill in, none of which ever reaches us. It is deleted when you ask us to, at getprefill@gmail.com.

Children

Prefill is a tool for job seekers and is not directed to children under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the new version posted here.
